After obtaining new owners, Washington DC’s professional hockey team, The Washington Capitals, needed an energized identity and space.
The design goal was to capture the feeling of hockey: icy, edgy, and intense. From the concrete floor in a hockey rink pattern to the twisting ceiling finish, the branded environment reminds everyone that hockey is “the coolest game on earth.” The workstations are surrounded by a sloping drywall partition to decrease the sound from the ticket sales groups and other departments. The ceiling was exposed around the perimeter to take advantage of the natural light. In order to pull the hockey feel into the workspace, offices have etched glass walls that are a facsimile of skate marks on ice.
